Privacy Policy

CanvasCast is built to record locally. This policy explains what data the extension handles, why it is needed, and the choices you have.

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy applies to the CanvasCast Chrome extension (“CanvasCast,” “we,” “our,” or “the extension”). CanvasCast lets you create whiteboard presentations, combine them with camera and microphone input, use a private teleprompter, and export video recordings.

CanvasCast does not upload your whiteboard projects or completed video recordings to our servers. These items remain in your browser or on your device unless you choose to export or share them.

2. Data CanvasCast handles

Whiteboard and teleprompter contentSlides, drawings, inserted images, project settings, and teleprompter scripts are stored locally in browser storage.
Camera and microphoneAccessed only after you enable these features or begin recording. The media is composed locally into your recording.
Speech recognitionWhen Voice Follow is enabled, Chrome’s speech recognition service may process microphone audio and return recognized text.
Account informationIf you sign in, we process your email address, user identifier, and authentication provider information through Supabase and Google Sign-In.
Payment statusIf you purchase watermark removal, Stripe processes the payment and CanvasCast checks the associated product entitlement.
Extension preferencesRecording settings, selected devices, layout preferences, and recent project information may be stored locally.

CanvasCast does not collect browsing history, read the content of websites you visit, inject scripts into ordinary web pages, or record your desktop or browser tabs.

3. How the data is used

Data is handled only to provide and maintain user-facing extension features:

  • rendering and automatically saving your whiteboard projects;
  • capturing camera and microphone input you explicitly enable;
  • creating, previewing, and downloading recordings on your device;
  • following your reading position in the optional Voice Follow teleprompter;
  • authenticating your account and restoring purchased watermark-removal access; and
  • processing a payment you explicitly initiate.

We do not sell personal data, use it for targeted advertising, create advertising profiles, or use Chrome API data for purposes unrelated to CanvasCast’s single purpose.

4. Local storage and recordings

Whiteboard projects, teleprompter text, inserted assets, and preferences are stored in the extension’s local browser storage, including IndexedDB. Recording data is generated in the extension page and made available for preview and download. Completed videos are not automatically stored in our database.

You control whether to download, retain, share, or delete exported recordings. Clearing CanvasCast site data or uninstalling the extension removes locally stored extension data, subject to Chrome’s browser behavior.

5. Voice Follow and speech processing

Voice Follow is optional. When enabled, CanvasCast uses Chrome’s built-in Web Speech recognition capability to match recognized speech with your teleprompter script. Depending on Chrome, your operating system, language, and browser configuration, microphone audio may be sent to and processed by Google or another browser speech-service provider.

CanvasCast receives recognition results so it can move and highlight the teleprompter text. CanvasCast does not use those results for advertising and does not intentionally retain them on our servers. You can avoid speech processing by using Manual teleprompter mode.

6. Service providers and data sharing

We disclose limited data only to service providers needed for features you choose to use:

  • Supabase provides account authentication and entitlement storage.
  • Google provides optional Google Sign-In and may provide Chrome speech recognition.
  • Stripe processes the optional one-time payment. CanvasCast does not receive or store your full payment-card number.

These providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users, or to address fraud and security threats. We do not otherwise rent or sell your information.

7. Permissions

  • Camera and microphone: requested at the time they are needed for preview, recording, or Voice Follow.
  • Tabs: used to open the CanvasCast studio in a dedicated tab and focus the existing studio instead of opening duplicates.
  • Identity: used only for optional account authentication.
  • Supabase host access: used to authenticate accounts and verify watermark-removal entitlement.

8. Retention, security, and your choices

Local project data remains until you delete browser data or uninstall the extension. Account and purchase-entitlement records may be retained as needed to provide account access, restore a purchase, prevent fraud, and meet legal obligations. Payment records are retained by Stripe under its policies.

Network communications with authentication, payment, and speech-service providers use encrypted HTTPS connections. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we limit access and data use to the purposes described above.

You may decline camera, microphone, speech recognition, sign-in, or payment. Core whiteboard features can still be used with the remaining enabled capabilities. You can remove locally stored information by clearing extension data or uninstalling CanvasCast.

9. Children’s privacy

CanvasCast is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Educators and organizations are responsible for using the extension in accordance with applicable student-privacy requirements.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when CanvasCast’s features or legal obligations change. We will publish the revised policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes will be communicated through an appropriate notice when required.
